At Radiation Oncology Associates, we are committed to making sure that you receive the support and advice that you need. From the time of your initial consultation, your doctor will provide a full explanation of your conidition, possible treatment options and the role that radiation treatment may play in your care.

Before any treatment begins, you should feel comfortable with your doctor. Should this not be the case, we want to know.

If recommended, radiation treatments can be delivered in many different ways, each with distinct benefits in terms of precision, safety, and convenience.

We can individualize radiation therapy to meet your needs with a variety of treatment techniques:

External Beam Radiation Therapy

External beam radiation therapy, or teletherapy, involves a machine used to direct high-energy X-rays as a radiation treatment. This is currently the most common category of radiation treatment.

We offer all of these specific kinds of external beam radiation therapy:

	3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D CRT)
	Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
	Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
	Orthovoltage Therapy
	Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
	Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
	Image fusion

Brachytherapy

Derived from ancient Greek words for short distance (brachy) and treatment (therapy), brachytherapy is the use of ionizing radiation much closer to the body than external beam radiation. As a result, it can limit the amount of radiation exposure to normal parts of the body. While less commonly used, brachytherapy can be helpful to either complement or replace external beam radiation therapy.

	High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy

Systemic Radiation Therapy

This is a type of radiation therapy in which a radioactive substance, such radioactive iodine or a radioactively labeled monoclonal antibody, is swallowed or injected into the body.

	Radioactive Iodine (RAI)
	Radioimmunotherapy (RIT)

Rarely will another more form of radiation treatment be needed that we cannot offer at one of our locations in Massachusetts or New Hampshire, but in those cases we will help find the right place for you to go for the treatment you need.
